The Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) has announced that four beneficiaries of its overseas scholarship scheme graduated with distinctions, while 16 scholars successfully completed master's degree programmes at universities in the United Kingdom.
The distinction graduates are Nina Orubebe (Financial Management), Tonbra Tonlagha (International Hospitality and Tourism), Kemien Egbekun (Law), and Simon Douye (Construction Engineering Management).
According to the programme, the graduates studied in various fields, including software engineering, oil and gas, data science and engineering, law, financial management, construction engineering management, and global public health at leading universities in the UK and the United States.
PAP Administrator, Dr. Dennis Brutu Otuaro, congratulated the scholars, describing their achievements as evidence that the Federal Government's investment in education and human capital development in the Niger Delta is producing positive results.
He said the expansion of the scholarship scheme aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at bridging the region's human capital gap and promoting sustainable peace and socio-economic development.
Otuaro urged the graduates to apply the knowledge and skills they acquired abroad to support the growth of their communities and contribute to Nigeria's national development.
He also reaffirmed the programme's commitment to expanding educational opportunities despite criticism, stating that the initiative would continue to empower more youths from the Niger Delta.
The PAP disclosed that since Otuaro assumed office in March 2024, the programme has produced 111 master's and doctoral degree holders, including 57 graduates from foreign universities and 54 from Nigerian institutions.
The agency added that it has awarded about 9,000 undergraduate and postgraduate scholarships within Nigeria, as well as 247 scholarships for higher-degree studies overseas, as part of efforts to promote education, reduce youth unemployment, and strengthen long-term peace in the Niger Delta.
