Four airstrikes struck the Abu al-Zuhour military airport in the eastern countryside of Idlib, northern Syria, on Tuesday, marking the first reported attack on the strategic facility since the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s government in December 2024.
The identity of the aircraft involved and those responsible for the strikes has not been officially confirmed. There were also no immediate reports of casualties or the extent of damage caused by the attack.
The Abu al-Zuhour military airport is considered strategically important because of its location and its role in monitoring military movements in northern Syria. Following the strikes, the facility reportedly remained under the control of forces aligned with Syria’s new authorities.
The attack comes amid continued security tensions in Syria following the collapse of the Assad government and the country’s ongoing political transition.
