Russian Strikes Kill 10 in Kharkiv as Ukraine Launches Major Drone Attack on Moscow

At least 10 people were killed and eight others injured in Russian attacks on Ukraine’s Kharkiv region, while Ukraine launched one of its largest drone assaults on Moscow in recent years, according to officials from both sides.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said more than 620 Ukrainian drones were detected heading towards the Moscow region overnight. Russian air defences reportedly destroyed 180 drones over the capital region between Monday evening and 5am local time, with another 17 drones intercepted later.

The attack injured three people, including a 10-year-old girl, according to Moscow Region Governor Andrey Vorobyov. A house was destroyed by fire in Pavlovsky Posad, while several homes and a guesthouse were damaged in the Bogorodsky district.

A Wildberries logistics warehouse east of Moscow also sustained minor damage after drone debris struck the building.

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s air force said it had shot down or suppressed 111 of 147 Russian drones launched overnight.

Kharkiv Governor Oleh Syniehubov said 10 people were killed and eight injured in the Pechenihy settlement. Five additional people, including a nine-year-old boy, were injured in the city of Izyum.

Russian drone attacks also caused fires and damaged buildings in Kyiv’s Brovary area, including an office building and warehouses.

The latest attacks come as long-range strikes between Russia and Ukraine intensify, despite a slowdown in frontline fighting and stalled peace negotiations. UN figures show that 437 civilians were killed in Ukraine in July, making it the deadliest month for civilians there since May 2022.
