The Federal Government has commenced construction of 250 two-bedroom bungalows for federal civil servants under the Renewed Hope Civil Service Estate in Gwagwalada, Abuja.
Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Muttaqha Darma, said the project is part of the government’s broader housing programme being implemented across Nigeria’s 36 states.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony in Abuja on Wednesday, Darma said the estate is designed to provide affordable housing for civil servants and improve their welfare and efficiency.
He urged contractors, consultants and supervising teams to ensure that the houses are built to high standards and are durable.
The minister also said the government plans to deliver several additional housing projects between now and May 2027. These include 132 rent-to-own homes before the end of August, 252 units in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, 300 units in Abuja, and 2,800 units in Karsana, Abuja, among other projects.
The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Walson-Jack, described the project as an important milestone in efforts to improve the welfare of federal civil servants.
She said the 250-unit estate represents a commitment to providing better housing opportunities for civil servants and their families.
The project is being implemented under the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Housing Programme, which includes Renewed Hope Cities, Renewed Hope Estates and Renewed Hope Social Housing Estates.
The Renewed Hope Estates are designed as 250-unit developments targeting middle-income Nigerians, including civil servants, teachers, healthcare workers, traders and artisans.
