The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State has welcomed more than 11,000 new members from various political parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The new members were formally received at an event held at the Azare Township Stadium. APC Bauchi State Chairman, Alhaji Hassan Mohammed Tilde, said more than 150,000 people had recently joined the party across the state, describing the development as a sign of the APC’s growing popularity.
Among those who defected were former members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Allied Peoples Movement (APM), African Democratic Congress (ADC), and Peoples Redemption Party (PRP).
The APC governorship running mate, Dr Farouk Mustapha, presented the list of new members to the party’s state leader and Minister of Health, Prof. Mohammed Ali Pate. He said the list would be forwarded to the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda.
Mustapha expressed confidence that the APC would win all elective positions in Bauchi State in 2027.
However, the event was overshadowed by the absence of several prominent APC figures, including former Foreign Affairs Minister Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, former Bauchi State Governor Isa Yuguda, former Speaker of the House of Representatives Yakubu Dogara, and governorship aspirants Nura Manu Soro and Bala Maijama’a Wunti.
Although no official explanation was given for their absence, some party members and insiders linked it to ongoing disagreements over internal party democracy and the processes surrounding the selection of candidates for the 2027 elections.
Some members also alleged irregularities during recent party primaries, including claims that election materials were not distributed to some polling units and that voters were not adequately informed about the exercises.
The concerns have led to calls for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda to intervene and reconcile aggrieved members and aspirants.
Party stakeholders warned that failure to resolve the internal disputes could weaken the APC’s recent membership gains and affect its chances in the 2027 elections.
