24 Relatives of ISWAP Members Surrender After Factional Clashes in Borno

The Nigerian Army has reported that 24 family members of Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists have surrendered to troops in Mafa Local Government Area of Borno State.

According to an operational report made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday, the group surrendered around 4 p.m. on Thursday to troops of the 112 Task Force Battalion.

The report said they fled the Gasuwa and Yaganari terrorist enclaves following clashes between rival factions within ISWAP. The surrendered individuals have since been profiled and documented by the military for further action.

In a separate operation, troops of the 212 Battalion, supported by the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), arrested two suspects in the Bewac general area of Maiduguri based on intelligence about suspected terrorist activities.

One of the suspects was reportedly found with a magazine containing 35 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition. The suspect allegedly said he received the ammunition from another civilian, who was subsequently arrested. A mobile phone was also recovered.

Meanwhile, troops of the 25 Military Intelligence Regiment and CJTF arrested a suspected ISWAP logistics supplier and informant in Kekura, Damboa Local Government Area. The suspect was allegedly linked to supplying food and mobile phones to terrorist camps.

The military also reported operations in other parts of Nigeria. In Kaduna State, troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA foiled a kidnapping attempt in Jurawa Village, Lere Local Government Area, and rescued a female victim.

In Plateau State, troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE recovered an AK-47 rifle, two magazines, a locally fabricated firearm and other items during operations in Bassa Local Government Area. They also recovered 20 rustled cattle in Pankshin Local Government Area.

In Delta State, troops arrested three suspected cultists over an alleged murder, while in Rivers State, two suspects were arrested while allegedly transporting about 125 litres of suspected illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO).

The military said the operations were part of ongoing efforts to combat terrorism, kidnapping, criminal activities and oil-related crimes across the country.
