Yemen has closed its airspace and suspended operations at all airports across the country following an attack on Sanaa International Airport, authorities announced on Monday.
The General Authority of Civil Aviation issued a directive ordering the closure of all airports to air traffic until further notice as security concerns continue to escalate.
The development came after Yemen's internationally recognised government said it carried out a strike on Sanaa Airport to stop an Iranian aircraft from landing. Despite the attack, Houthi officials confirmed that the Iranian plane safely landed in Yemen with a delegation returning from Tehran.
According to Houthi authorities, the aircraft was carrying medical patients, stranded Yemeni citizens, and an official government delegation. However, they did not disclose the exact airport where the plane landed.
Meanwhile, the United Nations Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, called on both the Iran-backed Houthi movement and Yemen's internationally recognised government to exercise restraint and resolve the crisis through dialogue.
The latest escalation has raised fears of renewed conflict, threatening the fragile ceasefire that has largely remained in place since 2022.
