The Houthi movement has accused Saudi Arabia of carrying out airstrikes on Sanaa International Airport, warning that the attacks will not go unanswered.
According to Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree, the strikes targeted the airport and ended a period of reduced tensions between the Iran-aligned group and Saudi Arabia. He described the attack as "blatant aggression" and vowed retaliation.
Earlier, Yemen's internationally recognised government said its armed forces targeted the runway at Sanaa International Airport to prevent an Iranian aircraft from landing. However, a military spokesman later stated that the plane landed safely at Hodeidah Airport, which is under Houthi control.
The Saudi-backed Yemeni government also ordered the closure of all airports across the country until further notice due to the escalating security situation. Saudi authorities had not issued an official response to the Houthi accusations at the time of reporting.
Meanwhile, Yemen's Information Minister accused the Houthis of detaining an International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) aircraft at Sanaa Airport along with its pilot and co-pilot.
The latest developments raise concerns over the future of the fragile truce that has largely held since 2022, as tensions continue to rise amid the wider regional conflict involving Iran.
