The conflict between the United States and Iran intensified on Thursday after U.S. forces carried out a second wave of airstrikes targeting Iranian military infrastructure along the country's southern coastline.
According to U.S. officials, the strikes were aimed at keeping the strategically important Strait of Hormuz open following Iran's recent attacks on commercial cargo ships in the waterway.
In response, Iran's Revolutionary Guards announced attacks on U.S. military bases in Bahrain and Kuwait, warning that further American military action would trigger additional retaliation across the Gulf region.
The U.S. Central Command said the latest operation struck about 90 military targets, including air defense systems, missile and drone storage facilities, naval assets, and logistics infrastructure.
Iranian state media reported that at least three people were killed and several others injured in strikes near Ahvaz, while attacks were also reported in Bandar Abbas, Chabahar, Konarak, and other coastal locations.
Meanwhile, global oil prices climbed by more than one percent as investors reacted to fears of further disruption in the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global energy supplies.
U.S. President Donald Trump said the strikes were retaliation for Iran's attacks on commercial vessels, warning that any further aggression would be met with an even stronger military response. Iran, however, insisted that U.S. pressure and military action would not go unanswered.
