The United Kingdom has announced a £250 million security package aimed at strengthening protection for Jewish communities following a rise in antisemitic attacks across the country.
The three-year initiative will fund the deployment of more than 500 additional police officers in areas with large Jewish populations, including 300 officers in London. It will also increase police patrols around synagogues and Jewish schools, while expanding the use of plainclothes officers.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer said tackling antisemitism remains a key priority for his government, describing the recent rise in anti-Jewish hate as a challenge to the country's values.
Part of the funding will support educational programmes designed to combat antisemitism and promote community awareness.
Deputy Commissioner Matt Jukes of London's Metropolitan Police said Jewish communities continue to face heightened threats from hate crimes, terrorism, and hostile foreign actors.
The announcement follows several attacks targeting Jewish sites and individuals in recent months, including the stabbing of two Jewish men in London's Golders Green district in April, which police classified as a terrorist incident. Other incidents included arson attacks on synagogues, while a synagogue attack in Manchester in October 2025 claimed two lives.
In addition, the government has allocated £59 million to strengthen counterterrorism policing and improve responses to threats linked to hostile states.
The new measures are intended to enhance security, reassure Jewish communities, and strengthen the UK's response to antisemitism and terrorism.
