The United Kingdom has announced a new round of sanctions targeting Russian cyber networks and individuals accused of carrying out cyberattacks and hybrid operations across Europe.
In a statement released on Monday, the British government said the sanctions affect 24 individuals and organisations allegedly linked to Russia's intelligence services. According to the government, the targeted networks have been involved in cyber activities aimed at creating instability, spreading division, and undermining security across Europe.
Among those sanctioned are senior officers of Russia's military intelligence agency (GRU), including Vyacheslav Stafeyev, Ivan Senin, and Ivan Kasyanenko, who British authorities say played key roles in directing cyber and hybrid threat operations.
The UK said the latest measures were introduced in coordination with the European Union as part of ongoing efforts to counter cyber threats linked to Russia.
Russia's embassy in London had not issued an official response at the time of reporting.
The sanctions are part of Britain's continued campaign to strengthen cybersecurity and respond to what it describes as hostile cyber activities targeting European countries.
