The Kwara State chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to intensify efforts to rescue 176 women and children abducted from Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area.
In a statement issued on Monday by the party's Publicity Secretary, Ibraheem Gbagba, the NDC said the victims have remained in captivity for about 158 days, describing the situation as a humanitarian crisis that has left affected families in deep emotional and psychological distress.
The party noted that the continued captivity of the victims has prolonged the suffering of their relatives, urging the state government to take immediate and decisive action to ensure their safe return.
The NDC praised the recent rescue of kidnapped victims in Oyo State, saying the successful operation demonstrated the importance of strong leadership, effective collaboration, intelligence gathering, and coordinated security efforts.
It urged the Kwara State Government to adopt a similar strategy by working closely with federal security agencies, traditional rulers, community leaders, and local vigilante groups to strengthen rescue operations.
The opposition party also recommended the establishment of a high-level intervention and negotiation team to facilitate the victims' release, increased security presence in vulnerable communities across Kaiama and other parts of Kwara North, regular updates for affected families, and emergency support for those facing emotional and economic hardship.
The NDC further appealed to residents, civil society organisations, religious leaders, and community stakeholders to unite in demanding the safe return of the abducted women and children, stressing that protecting the lives and property of citizens remains the government's primary responsibility.
