27 Akure Secondary School Students Suspended for Indiscipline.

The Ondo State Government has suspended 27 students from three public secondary schools in Akure over alleged acts of misconduct.

The affected students are from Oyemekun Grammar School, Aquinas College and CAC Grammar School. According to the state Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, the students were placed on immediate and indefinite suspension following allegations of unruly behaviour and other serious violations of the code of conduct for public secondary schools.

The Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr. Akindele Ige, visited the affected schools to enforce the suspension and met with school principals, vice-principals and heads of departments.

He said the decision became necessary despite repeated efforts by the ministry to curb indiscipline through regular meetings with school authorities and other stakeholders. According to him, several warnings had been issued, but some students continued to engage in unacceptable behaviour.

Dr. Ige expressed concern over the growing cases of bullying, fighting, truancy and the circulation of inappropriate videos on social media among students. He stressed that the state government maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards actions that threaten discipline and the integrity of the education system.

Under the suspension order, the affected students are barred from entering their schools or taking part in any school-related activities until investigations are concluded. Their cases are currently being reviewed by the disciplinary committees of the affected schools in collaboration with the ministry.

The permanent secretary also urged parents and guardians to work closely with school authorities in monitoring the behaviour of their children, noting that instilling discipline is a shared responsibility between families and schools.

He added that the ministry would continue regular monitoring of schools across the state and warned that students found guilty of bullying, fighting or other serious misconduct would face appropriate disciplinary measures in line with established regulations.

The management of the affected schools had not issued any official statement on the suspensions as of the time the report was filed.
