Tragic School Bus Accident Leaves 21 Dead in Uganda

At least 21 people, including 20 schoolchildren and one adult, have died after a school bus crashed in eastern Uganda, authorities said on Friday.

The bus, carrying pupils from King David Junior School in Kampala, was returning from an educational excursion to Sipi Falls in Kapchorwa District when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle. The bus veered off the road, struck a large roadside rock, and overturned.

Police said several passengers, including children and adults, sustained injuries and were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. Investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing.

Uganda continues to face serious road safety challenges, with fatal accidents involving buses and trucks occurring regularly due to poor road conditions and other factors. Officials reported more than 5,000 road deaths in 2024, highlighting the country's persistent traffic safety concerns.

Authorities have expressed condolences to the families of the victims as emergency responders continue to assist those affected by the tragedy.
