Toyota Motor Corporation has announced plans to invest $3.6 billion in a new vehicle manufacturing facility in Texas, expanding its U.S. operations and relocating part of its pickup truck production from Mexico.
The new 2.5-million-square-foot factory will be built at Toyota's San Antonio manufacturing campus and is expected to begin operations by 2030. The project will create about 2,000 new jobs.
As part of the expansion, Toyota will transfer production of its Tacoma pickup truck from its Baja California plant in Mexico to the new Texas facility. However, the company confirmed that Tacoma production will continue at its Guanajuato plant in Mexico.
Toyota said it remains committed to its manufacturing operations across Mexico, Canada, and the United States, while emphasizing the importance of maintaining strong North American trade cooperation.
The investment comes as the U.S. government continues encouraging automakers to increase domestic manufacturing through tariffs and other industrial policies.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott welcomed the investment, saying the project will receive a $20 million state grant along with additional incentives to support the expansion.
Toyota already manufactures Tundra pickup trucks and SUVs at its San Antonio plant, where a new rear axle production facility is also expected to open later this year.
