President Bola Tinubu has paid glowing tribute to Nigeria's late former President, Muhammadu Buhari, on the first anniversary of his passing, describing him as a leader whose life and values continue to inspire the nation.
Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima at a memorial prayer held in Abuja, Tinubu said Buhari's journey from military Head of State to democratically elected President made him one of the most remarkable figures in Nigeria's political history.
The President praised Buhari's commitment to honesty, discipline, simplicity, and patriotism, saying he served Nigeria with courage and unwavering dedication without seeking personal gain.
Tinubu noted that Buhari remained respected by millions of Nigerians even after leaving office because he consistently lived by the principles he preached.
He urged political leaders, public officials, and Buhari's supporters to preserve the late leader's legacy by embracing integrity, self-discipline, and selfless service.
The President also assured former First Lady Aisha Buhari and the Buhari family of the Federal Government's continued support, praying for Allah to grant the late President eternal rest in Aljannah Firdaus.
During the remembrance ceremony, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, announced plans by Buhari's family and close associates to establish a foundation in his honour to preserve his legacy and promote the values he stood for.
Former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State, and Katsina State Deputy Governor Farouk Jobe also paid tribute to Buhari, describing him as a disciplined, humble, and patriotic leader whose contributions to Nigeria would remain unforgettable.
Special prayers were offered by Christian and Muslim religious leaders, while Vice President Shettima unveiled a book of tributes dedicated to the late former President.
