Seven travellers kidnapped by suspected gunmen have been rescued by troops of Operation Enduring Peace during a rescue mission along the Riyom–Abuja Highway in Plateau State.
Security sources said the operation was launched after troops received a distress call at about 9:30 p.m. on Monday near Sopp village in Riyom Local Government Area. On arrival, soldiers found an abandoned blue Opel Vectra, prompting an immediate search of the surrounding bush.
The troops later encountered the suspected kidnappers, who fled under military pressure and abandoned the captives.
The rescued victims were identified as ASP Babagida Ishaku, Auwulu Haruna, Dung Jerry Dang, Anas Idris, Hussaini Mohammed, Idris Abdullahi, and Mrs. Kangyang Sunday.
According to security sources, the victims had boarded the vehicle in Akwanga, Nasarawa State, and were travelling to Jos when they were intercepted and abducted by the armed men.
All seven victims were rescued unharmed. Security operatives said efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects, while patrols have been intensified across the Joint Operations Area to enhance the safety of commuters and residents.
The Plateau State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement on the incident at the time of filing this report.
