Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central Senatorial District, has facilitated the installation of a free campus-wide Wi-Fi network at the Federal College of Education, Okene, in a move aimed at improving digital access for students and staff.
According to a statement released by her media aide, Mike Idoko, the initiative is designed to strengthen teaching, learning, research, and innovation by providing students with reliable internet access across the campus.
Speaking during the unveiling of the project, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan described internet access as a necessity in today's digital world rather than a luxury.
> "Education remains one of the greatest investments we can make in our future. Access to the internet is no longer a luxury but an essential tool for learning, innovation, research, and economic empowerment. Our students deserve the same digital opportunities available anywhere in the world," she said.
She explained that the free Wi-Fi service will enable students to access international educational resources, online certification courses, artificial intelligence tools, software development platforms, entrepreneurship training, and remote work opportunities.
The lawmaker noted that the project is part of her broader commitment to expanding educational opportunities and preparing young people for success in the global digital economy.
Students who attended the inauguration welcomed the initiative, saying it would reduce the cost of purchasing internet data, improve access to digital libraries and online courses, and support virtual learning, research, innovation, and technology-driven entrepreneurship.
Education stakeholders also praised the project, describing reliable internet connectivity as essential for academic collaboration, research, online learning, and digital inclusion in higher institutions.
The Wi-Fi installation follows Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan's recent launch of the "Growing Kogi Central, Building Our Future" 10,000 Economic Trees Project, an initiative focused on environmental sustainability and economic empowerment across the district.
