Nigeria's youngest chartered accountant, Osasere Okundaye, has revealed that she began her journey with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria at just 13 years old after completing secondary school ahead of schedule.
The 16-year-old made the revelation while speaking at the Power Must Change Hands monthly programme held at the headquarters of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries in Magboro, Ogun State.
Okundaye, who was recently recognised as Nigeria's youngest chartered accountant, said her parents encouraged her to pursue ICAN's Accounting Technicians Scheme (ATS) instead of waiting until she reached the age for university admission.
"I started my ICAN journey three years ago after finishing secondary school early. My parents encouraged me to write the ATS examinations rather than wait for university," she said.
She admitted that the journey was difficult because she had not studied accounting in secondary school, making the early stages of the examinations particularly challenging.
"I had to put in extra effort, and by God's grace, I passed the first level. Since then, it has been a successful journey," she added.
Okundaye also recalled a major setback when she failed one of her final professional papers last year. However, she rewrote the examination in May 2026 and passed, officially qualifying as a chartered accountant at the age of 16.
Her achievement has drawn national praise, with Nigeria's Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, describing the milestone as a testament to hard work, discipline, resilience and commitment to excellence.
Okundaye's accomplishment comes a year after Temilola Blossom Arise, an 18-year-old student of University of Ilorin, successfully passed ICAN's professional stage examination.
