The Kano State Police Command has arrested a suspected bandit and recovered a cache of ammunition and suspected military gear during an intelligence-led operation in Bichi Local Government Area.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, the suspect, Mohammed Isah Haruna, 28, from Dala Local Government Area, was apprehended after residents of Rimaye Village alerted security operatives about a man dressed in a suspected military uniform.
With the support of local vigilantes and community members, police officers intercepted the suspect and recovered an AK-47 magazine loaded with 30 rounds of live ammunition, 79 additional rounds of AK-47 ammunition, two sets of suspected military uniforms, three military caps, a suspected fake military identity card, and a pair of desert boots.
Security operatives also recovered the suspect's National Identity Card, National Identification Number (NIN) slip, voter’s card, and four ATM cards.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed that he was on his way to deliver the weapons and military items to bandits hiding in nearby forests.
Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, praised the residents of Rimaye for their vigilance and timely intelligence, describing community cooperation as essential in the fight against crime.
The suspect remains in police custody while investigations continue to identify and arrest other members of the criminal network. Police authorities said he will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
The arrest is part of ongoing efforts by security agencies to combat banditry, curb the spread of illegal firearms, and strengthen community policing across northern Nigeria.
