Oyo Partners Dangote Foundation to Distribute Rice to 30,000 Vulnerable Residents

The Oyo State Government has partnered with the Aliko Dangote Foundation to distribute 30,000 bags of 10kg rice to vulnerable residents across the state as part of efforts to ease the impact of the country's economic hardship.

The food distribution, held at the Local Government Training School in Agodi, Ibadan, marked the second phase of the Oyo State–Dangote Foundation Food Relief Outreach under the state's Sustainable Action for Economic Recovery initiative.

Representing the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Olanike Adeyemo, Permanent Secretary Musibau Babatunde said the programme is aimed at reducing poverty and improving the welfare of widows, persons with disabilities, the elderly, the underprivileged and other vulnerable groups.

He noted that beneficiaries were selected from all 33 local government areas of Oyo State and commended the Aliko Dangote Foundation for supporting the government's efforts to tackle poverty and food insecurity. He also encouraged more private organisations to partner with government through corporate social responsibility initiatives.

Speaking at the event, the foundation's Head of Operations in Lagos, Edero Ejiro, said the distribution forms part of the Aliko Dangote Foundation's nationwide food relief programme. He explained that the intervention is designed to cushion the effects of economic hardship on vulnerable Nigerians.

Ejiro praised Governor Seyi Makinde's commitment to food security and pledged that the foundation would continue collaborating with the state government to improve the welfare of disadvantaged residents.

The Director-General of the Oyo State Agency for Persons with Disabilities, Ayodele Adekanmbi, also expressed appreciation to both the state government and the foundation for the initiative.

Some beneficiaries, including Adijat Akinsolotu and Muyideen Oyenike, thanked the government and the Aliko Dangote Foundation, saying the rice distribution would help ease the burden of rising food prices.

The event was attended by government officials, members of the distribution committee and beneficiaries from all 33 local government areas of the state.
