Nigerian Troops Repel Boko Haram Attack In Yobe, Kill Suspected Terrorist

Nigerian troops under Operation HADIN KAI have thwarted an attempt by suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP fighters to extort money from residents in Yobe State, killing one suspected terrorist and recovering weapons, ammunition, and logistics items.

According to the military, the operation followed credible intelligence that terrorists were travelling in two Volkswagen Golf vehicles and motorcycles to collect illegal levies from communities. Troops from the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Bukarti, working alongside the 27 Task Force Brigade, launched a fighting patrol along the Paya Kafiya axis on July 19.

The troops engaged the insurgents in a fierce gun battle, immobilising one of the vehicles. The driver was killed, while four other suspected terrorists reportedly fled into nearby bushes with gunshot wounds.

During follow-up operations on July 20 along the Paya Kafiya–Garin Gada route, soldiers recovered the abandoned vehicle along with 25 rounds of belted PKT ammunition, a loaded AK-47 magazine, 15 empty PKT ammunition cases, assorted drugs, including paracetamol and nicotine products, and mechanical tools believed to have supported terrorist operations.

The military said the operation disrupted the terrorists' logistics and funding network by preventing the collection of illegal taxes from local communities, describing it as another success for intelligence-led operations in the North-East.

Operation HADIN KAI reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations against Boko Haram and ISWAP, vowing to continue working with other security agencies and local communities to restore lasting peace and security across the region.
