The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has officially taken custody of 6,778.5 kilograms of "Canadian Loud," a high-grade strain of cannabis intercepted at Apapa Port in Lagos.
The drugs were handed over during a ceremony on Wednesday after they were seized in two separate operations carried out jointly by the NDLEA, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and other security agencies.
NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (retd.), represented by the Director of Seaport Operations, Ibinabo Archie-Abia, described the seizure as a major success resulting from strong collaboration between Nigerian and international law enforcement agencies.
According to the agency, the containers were tracked for months through intelligence shared with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). The shipments travelled from Toronto and Montreal through Morocco before arriving at Nigerian ports, where they were intercepted before reaching the market.
Marwa said the agency remains committed to dismantling drug trafficking networks by not only seizing illicit drugs but also identifying, arresting and prosecuting those behind the operations, while confiscating their criminal assets.
He commended NDLEA officers, the Nigeria Customs Service and other security agencies for their professionalism and teamwork, saying the successful operation demonstrates the effectiveness of intelligence sharing and inter-agency cooperation in combating transnational drug trafficking.
