MACBAN Condemns Otukpo Killings, Urges Public Not to Blame Fulani Herders Prematurely

The Benue State chapter of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has condemned the deadly attack in Otukpo-Nobi, Otukpo Local Government Area, describing the killings as tragic and calling on Nigerians to avoid blaming Fulani herders before security agencies complete their investigations.

In a statement issued by the association's Benue State Secretary, Ibrahim Galma, MACBAN expressed sympathy to the families of the victims, prayed for those who lost their lives, and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

Galma said the association strongly condemned the violence and urged the public to refrain from making assumptions about those responsible until investigators establish the facts.

MACBAN noted that Fulani residents had already been displaced from Otukpo and nearby communities following previous conflicts, adding that their community leader and other residents left the area after efforts to restore peace failed.

The association also pointed to longstanding communal disputes involving Otukpo-Nobi and neighbouring communities, saying such conflicts had previously resulted in loss of lives. It further cautioned against linking the latest attack to the recent killing of Ardo Risku in Okudu near Ohimini, stressing that doing so could interfere with ongoing investigations.

MACBAN called on authorities to monitor misinformation and inflammatory content circulating on social media, warning that unverified claims could heighten tensions and undermine peace efforts.

The association urged residents to remain calm, peaceful and law-abiding while security agencies investigate the incident, expressing confidence that those responsible would be identified and brought to justice regardless of their identity.
