Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) says it has launched a new wave of missile and drone attacks targeting US military facilities in Bahrain and Kuwait, describing the operation as retaliation for what it called recent US strikes on Iranian coastal military positions.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the IRGC said the operation, codenamed "Nasr-2", involved coordinated strikes by its naval and aerospace forces. It claimed to have targeted military infrastructure at Bahrain's Sheikh Isa Air Base and Kuwait's Ali Al Salem Air Base, including facilities allegedly used to store weapons and deploy MQ-9 drones.
The IRGC further warned that continued US military action could delay the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and disrupt oil and gas exports from the Gulf region. It also vowed to continue retaliatory operations if what it described as US aggression persists.
The announcement followed reports of US airstrikes on several locations in southern Iran earlier on Tuesday, including Qeshm Island, Kish Island, and Andimeshk. Iranian officials have accused Washington of violating previous agreements intended to reduce tensions.
As of the time of reporting, there has been no independent verification of the IRGC's claims regarding the damage caused by the strikes, and US authorities had not publicly responded to the allegations.
The latest developments mark another escalation in tensions between Iran and the United States, raising concerns over regional security and the potential impact on global energy supplies.
