Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed responsibility for a retaliatory strike targeting a United States military base in Kuwait, following recent US air attacks on Iranian targets.
According to Iranian officials, the attack was launched in response to US strikes carried out on Thursday. Earlier, the United States said it had targeted dozens of IRGC positions across Iran after Tehran allegedly attempted missile attacks against US forces stationed in the Middle East.
Meanwhile, Iranian authorities held funeral ceremonies for Revolutionary Guard members reportedly killed in recent US attacks. Iranian media also reported that the bodies of five IRGC members killed in earlier US-Saudi strikes in Iraq had been returned to Iran for burial.
In Iraq, security sources reported that a drone attack targeted a camp belonging to an Iranian Kurdish opposition group near Erbil. No immediate casualty figures were released.
China also reacted to the reported Iranian strike in Kuwait, saying one worker was killed after a Chinese company building was hit. Beijing stated that no Chinese citizens were among the victims and urged Kuwaiti authorities to strengthen protection for Chinese nationals and businesses.
In the energy market, oil prices fell by more than $1 per barrel despite continued tensions. Brent crude traded at around $88 per barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude dropped to about $82 per barrel. Analysts said geopolitical risks in the Gulf continue to support higher oil prices despite the temporary decline.
Shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz remains active, although heightened security concerns have increased freight and insurance costs as the conflict between Iran and the United States continues.
