The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has outlined the steps Nigerians can follow to report suspected fraud and other financial crimes through its online petition portal.
According to the commission, individuals submitting petitions must provide truthful and accurate information, warning that filing a false petition is a criminal offence punishable by law.
To submit a petition, applicants are required to provide personal details, including their name, National Identification Number (NIN), gender, phone number, email address, residential address, and location.
Petitioners must also include information about the case, such as the subject of the complaint, the suspect's name and location, the complainant's details, where the alleged offence occurred, the amount involved, and the currency.
The EFCC further requires a detailed description of the alleged fraud in the petition. Supporting documents, such as PDF files and images not exceeding 10MB each, may also be uploaded as evidence, although this is optional.
Before submitting the petition, applicants must complete a security verification and acknowledge that the information provided is truthful and accurate.
The commission said providing complete and correct information will help investigators process petitions more efficiently and urged members of the public to use the official online portal when reporting financial crimes.
