Gunmen Attack Plateau Mining Site, Kill Three

Three people have been killed and two others injured after gunmen attacked a mining site in Nyango, Gyel District of Jos South Local Government Area, Plateau State.

The attack occurred around 11:50 a.m. on Tuesday while miners were working, causing panic as workers and nearby residents fled for safety.

A resident, Chuwang Rogo, said the assailants stormed the site and opened fire indiscriminately before escaping.

The Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM) condemned the attack, describing it as another sign of worsening insecurity in Gyel and nearby communities. The group said residents had repeatedly raised concerns about recurring attacks in the Gyero and Rafin Bauna areas and called on security agencies to dismantle criminal hideouts and restore peace.

The association alleged that members of the Fulani community were responsible for the attack. However, the Plateau State Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) rejected the claim, describing it as false.

As of the time of reporting, the spokesperson for the Plateau State Police Command, SP Alabo Alfred, had not responded to requests for comment.
