Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, has threatened to file a ₦10 billion defamation lawsuit against Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi over allegations accusing him of murder, bribery, abuse of office, and other criminal acts.
In a legal letter dated July 6, 2026, and signed by Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Kemi Pinheiro on behalf of Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff described the allegations as false, malicious, and defamatory.
The dispute follows a June 25 press conference where Adeyemi, who is facing criminal charges over his alleged involvement with the controversial Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), accused Gbajabiamila of demanding a share of the council's alleged take-off funds, receiving money through proxies, and participating in criminal activities. He also publicly referred to the Chief of Staff as a "murderer" and "assassin."
Gbajabiamila's legal team denied all the accusations, insisting that he has never met or had any form of contact with Adeyemi. The lawyers argued that the allegations were deliberately fabricated to damage his reputation.
The legal notice demands that Adeyemi remove all videos, transcripts, and related materials from every platform, issue a public apology and retraction in at least five national newspapers and across social media, and provide a written commitment not to make further defamatory statements.
The lawyers gave Adeyemi 72 hours to comply, warning that failure to do so would result in both criminal defamation proceedings and a civil lawsuit seeking ₦10 billion in aggravated and exemplary damages, along with a court order compelling a public apology.
Meanwhile, Adeyemi is facing charges before the Federal High Court in Abuja over allegations of forgery, including allegedly forging official presidential documents and falsely presenting himself as the Director-General of the PFIPC.
Although Adeyemi insists the council is legitimate because it appeared in the 2026 Appropriation Act, the Presidency maintains that the agency is fictitious and fraudulent.
Human rights lawyer Femi Falana has called for an independent investigation into the matter, arguing that only the courts can determine the truth behind the allegations.
Adeyemi is scheduled to appear before the Federal High Court on July 27, 2026.
