Diver Injured in Shark Attack Off Tasmania Coast

A 31-year-old male diver has been injured after being attacked by a shark off the coast of Tasmania, Australia.

The incident occurred on Saturday morning near Adventure Bay on Bruny Island, about 50 metres from shore. Authorities believe the diver was bitten by a two-metre broadnose sevengill shark while underwater.

Despite the attack, the diver managed to swim back to shore with assistance from fellow divers. He suffered injuries to his forearm and was airlifted to hospital, where he is reported to be in stable condition. Police confirmed that his injuries are not life-threatening.

Officials said there have been no further sightings of the shark in the area.

The incident is the latest in a series of shark attacks recorded across Australia this year. Recent attacks have included fatal incidents in Western Australia and Queensland, while another woman was critically injured in Sydney last month.

Although shark attacks remain relatively uncommon, data from the Australian Shark Incident Database shows that shark encounters have increased over the past decade, averaging nearly 29 incidents each year.
