The Chinese Consulate-General in Lagos has released updated visa application guidelines for Nigerian citizens, outlining the various visa categories, required documents, application procedures, processing timelines, and fees.
According to the guidelines, Nigerian holders of diplomatic or official passports are exempt from visa requirements for stays of up to 30 days in mainland China. Applicants with regular passports must apply for the appropriate visa based on the purpose of their visit, including tourism, business, employment, study, family reunion, journalism, and cultural exchanges.
The consulate stated that all applicants must complete the online China Visa Application Form, submit a valid passport with at least six months' validity, provide a recent passport photograph, and present supporting documents relevant to their chosen visa category. Additional requirements may include invitation letters, bank statements, flight bookings, hotel reservations, admission letters, work permits, or proof of family relationship.
Applications are submitted through the China Visa Application Centres (CVAC) in Abuja and Lagos, while diplomatic and official visa applications are handled directly by the Chinese Embassy or Consulate by appointment.
The standard visa processing time is four working days, subject to approval by the visa officer. Visa fees for Nigerian citizens begin at ₦10,500 for a single-entry visa, with higher charges for double-entry and multiple-entry visas. Separate fees apply for visas to Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions.
The Chinese Consulate also noted that visa officers may request additional documents when necessary and retain the final authority over visa issuance, validity, duration of stay, and number of entries based on each applicant's circumstances.
