A suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP attack on a military base in Logomani, Ngala Local Government Area of Borno State, has been successfully repelled by troops of Operation Hadin Kai, the Nigerian military has confirmed.
The terrorists launched a coordinated assault on the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Logomani, killing one soldier during the fierce exchange of gunfire. The attackers also set a police outpost and a primary healthcare centre in the community on fire.
According to the Acting Military Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai, Captain Muhammed Goni, the troops quickly regrouped after the insurgents briefly breached part of the base's defensive perimeter.
He said the soldiers mounted a strong counterattack, forcing the terrorists to retreat after suffering heavy casualties. Two military gun trucks and other combat equipment were, however, damaged during the battle.
Captain Goni also disclosed that troops recorded another operational success on July 7 during a search-and-rescue mission in Askira/Uba Local Government Area, where two kidnapped victims were rescued from a terrorist hideout.
During the operation, security forces recovered ₦1.2 million suspected to be proceeds of criminal activities, along with food supplies and other logistics believed to support terrorist operations.
The rescued victims have since been taken to a secure location, where they are receiving medical treatment and psychosocial support.
The military reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations across the North-East to deny terrorist groups freedom of movement and restore security in the region.
