Global leaders, technology experts, policymakers and researchers gathered in Geneva, Switzerland, for the 2026 AI for Good Global Summit to discuss the future of artificial intelligence and the need for stronger international governance.
The summit, organised by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in partnership with several United Nations agencies, attracted a record number of participants. Discussions focused on how countries can cooperate to develop common standards that ensure AI is safe, transparent and beneficial to society.
A key topic at the event was the growing call for global rules to regulate advanced AI systems. Delegates stressed the importance of balancing innovation with safeguards to address concerns such as misinformation, cybersecurity threats, privacy, autonomous AI systems and the impact of AI on jobs.
