The National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) has announced the results of the 2026 National Common Entrance Examination for admission into Federal and State Technical Colleges, revealing that 75.29 percent of candidates scored at least 50 percent.
Speaking while releasing the results on Tuesday, NABTEB Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Aminu Mohammed, said the examination was successfully conducted nationwide on June 13.
According to him, enrollment fell sharply this year, with 15,290 candidates registering for the examination, compared to 29,260 in 2025—a decline of 13,970 candidates, representing 47.74 percent.
Out of the registered candidates, 13,848 sat for the examination, while 1,442 were absent. Of those who took the test, 10,426 candidates (75.29 percent) scored 50 percent and above, while 5,708 candidates (41.22 percent) achieved scores of 70 percent or higher. A total of 3,422 candidates (24.71 percent) scored below 50 percent, while 31 candidates recorded outstanding scores of 96 percent and above.
Dr. Mohammed said the examination was conducted in 34 Federal Technical Colleges and 168 State Technical Colleges across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. He noted that the exercise was peaceful and adhered strictly to NABTEB's quality assurance guidelines.
The registrar explained that candidates registered for 28 trades grouped under five major clusters: Mechanical Technology, Electrical Technology, Construction Technology, Creative and Culinary Technology, and Agricultural Technology.
Electrical Installation and Maintenance Practice attracted the highest number of candidates with 3,870 registrations, followed by Computer Hardware and GSM Repairs/Maintenance with 2,857 candidates. Other popular trades included Catering Craft Practice, Bricklaying, Blocklaying and Concreting, Automobile Mechanics, and Fashion Design and Garment Making.
However, some trades recorded very low enrollment. Tiling and Cladding had only one candidate, while Social Media Content Creation and Management attracted two candidates. Fish Farming Activities had three candidates, Motorcycle and Tricycle Repairs had five, Creative Media had six, Automobile CNG Conversion had nine, and Leather Works recorded 18 candidates.
Dr. Mohammed also announced that registration for the supplementary National Common Entrance Examination will begin before the end of July to provide another opportunity for prospective candidates.
He urged parents and guardians to encourage their children to embrace Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), stressing that practical skills remain essential for employment, entrepreneurship, innovation, and self-reliance in today's economy.
