US Military Action Ended Killing of Christians in Nigeria - Trump

Trump: US Military Action Ended Killing of Christians in Nigeria

US President Donald Trump says recent US-authorised missile strikes in Nigeria helped stop attacks against Christians in the country.

Trump made the statement on Friday during an event in Washington, saying the operation had “largely ended” what he described as the killing of Christian communities in Nigeria.

> “They were being butchered… thousands of people were being killed, including children, women and elderly people,” Trump said.

He claimed the military action discouraged further terrorist attacks, adding that US forces had targeted key leaders of extremist groups.

“We knocked out their leader, their second leader and their third leader,” he said.

Trump compared the operation in Nigeria with US military actions against Iran, saying the US would continue to act against threats it considers dangerous.

He also said his administration was committed to protecting Christians and religious freedom around the world.

“I’m saving Christians throughout the world by hitting these terrorists very hard,” Trump said.

The US and Nigerian forces have carried out air operations against ISIS and ISWAP fighters in parts of northern Nigeria. Nigerian military authorities previously reported that several militants were killed during joint air strikes in Borno State.
