Turkey Arrests Over 200 Suspected ISIS, Far-Left Group Members Ahead of NATO Summit

Turkish authorities on Tuesday arrested more than 200 people suspected of having links to the Islamic State (ISIS) and outlawed far-left organisations, officials said.

The Ankara Prosecutor’s Office announced that 209 suspects were detained in the capital, while 32 others were still being sought.

Officials said 185 of those arrested are suspected members of several far-left groups classified as terrorist organisations by Turkey, including the Revolutionary People’s Liberation Party-Front (DHKP-C), which has claimed responsibility for previous attacks in the country.

The arrests were part of wider security operations ahead of the upcoming NATO summit scheduled to take place in Ankara on July 7–8.

Authorities also announced a ban on demonstrations in the capital from June 28 until the end of the summit, which is expected to bring together leaders from all 32 NATO member states, including US President Donald Trump.
