The Joint Task Force (North East), Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), has rescued 47 people, mostly women and children, who were held captive by ISWAP terrorists in Kangarwa, Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State.
The military said the rescue operation was carried out on June 20, 2026, during a coordinated offensive against terrorist positions in the Lake Chad region.
According to the Acting Military Information Officer of the Theatre Command, Captain Mohammed Musa, the operation succeeded after sustained ground and air attacks forced the insurgents to abandon their hideout, allowing the victims to escape.
He said the rescued victims are currently receiving medical attention at a secure location, while humanitarian agencies are providing support to help them recover and reunite with their communities.
The military reaffirmed its commitment to continuing operations aimed at weakening ISWAP networks and restoring peace and security in the North East.
