Security forces under the Joint Task Force North West Operation Fansan Yamma (OPFY) have killed two suspected bandits, arrested four others and recovered stolen livestock during coordinated operations in Kaduna State.
The operations, carried out between June 20 and 21, targeted criminal groups involved in banditry and other security threats across the region.
According to military authorities, troops acted on intelligence about cattle rustling activities in a Kaduna community. The soldiers intercepted the fleeing criminals, leading to a gun battle in which two suspected bandits were neutralised.
The operation also resulted in the recovery of rustled animals, weapons, ammunition and other items linked to criminal activities. However, the military reported that one civilian died during the incident due to actions blamed on the bandits.
In another operation, troops on night patrol arrested two suspects allegedly connected to bandit and terrorist networks. Digital devices recovered from them reportedly contained information relevant to ongoing investigations.
The security operation continued the following day when troops encountered armed criminals. The suspects escaped into nearby bushes under military pressure, but soldiers later arrested two suspected scouts believed to be providing intelligence support to criminal groups.
Recovered items included motorcycles and communication devices containing suspected evidence.
Meanwhile, troops were deployed to restore calm in Mararraba community, Kaduna State, after violence broke out following the killing of a female suspect accused of child trafficking by a mob.
Security forces dispersed the crowd, protected public facilities and reopened the affected highway. Troops remain stationed in the area to prevent further unrest.
The commander of Operation Fansan Yamma praised the troops for their efforts and reaffirmed the military’s commitment to intelligence-led operations aimed at weakening bandit networks and improving security in the North-West.
