Tinubu Commends Veteran Journalist Tunji Bello as He Turns 65

President Bola Tinubu has celebrated veteran journalist and public servant Tunji Bello on his 65th birthday, describing him as a loyal ally, accomplished administrator, and advocate of progressive values.

In a birthday message issued on Tuesday ahead of Bello’s July 1 celebration, Tinubu praised the former Lagos State Commissioner for his decades of commitment to public service and democratic ideals.

The President highlighted Bello’s contributions during Nigeria’s pro-democracy struggle under military rule, noting that he remained a fearless journalist who opposed dictatorship before transitioning into government service.

Tinubu said Bello’s journey from journalism to administration showed the impact of competence, creativity, and integrity.

He recalled appointing Bello to the Lagos State cabinet in 2003 when he was Governor, tasking him with addressing the state’s waste management challenges.

According to Tinubu, Bello achieved significant reforms in the environmental sector, leading to his continued relevance in successive administrations where he served in key roles, including Commissioner for Environment and Secretary to the State Government.

The President also praised Bello’s leadership at the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, saying he had made notable contributions toward improving consumer protection in Nigeria.

Tinubu described Bello as one of Lagos State’s most accomplished public servants and prayed for his continued good health and service to the nation.
