Tinubu Celebrates Muslims on Islamic New Year

President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Muslims in Nigeria and around the world as they mark the beginning of the Islamic New Year, 1 Muharram 1448 AH, which falls on June 16, 2026.

In a statement released on Tuesday by his Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President reflected on the significance of Hijrah — the historic migration of Prophet Muhammad from Mecca to Medina, which marks the start of the Islamic calendar.

Tinubu said the lessons of Hijrah, including sacrifice, renewal, patience, and faith in Allah’s plan, remain important values for building a peaceful and prosperous society.

He urged Nigerians, especially Muslim faithful, to embrace the new year by committing themselves to good citizenship and promoting values such as kindness, tolerance, honesty, and dedication to duty.

The President said these qualities are essential for strengthening national unity, security, and development.

Tinubu also prayed that the new Islamic year would bring peace, blessings, and prosperity to families across Nigeria and that Allah would continue to guide the nation toward progress.
