Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have killed two suspected kidnappers and recovered a firearm, cash, and other items during an operation connected to the rescue of an abducted victim in the state.
The police said the operation was carried out by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit as part of efforts to tackle kidnapping and other violent crimes across Ogun State.
According to a statement by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the victim was kidnapped on June 11, 2026, at Ogbe Village, Ogun State.
The command said it deployed intelligence and tactical teams after receiving the report, leading to the victim’s safe release on June 18 without harm.
After the rescue, police operatives tracked members of the kidnapping gang to their hideout.
The statement said the suspects opened fire when they sighted the officers, leading to a gun battle.
“Two of the suspected kidnappers were neutralised, while other members of the gang escaped with gunshot injuries,” the police said.
Items recovered from the suspects included a single-barrel gun, an expended cartridge, a mobile phone, and ₦2.2 million believed to be proceeds from criminal activities.
The police said efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects and investigate the gang’s activities further.
The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, praised the Anti-Kidnapping Unit for its professionalism and commitment, assuring residents that security operations would continue across the state.
He also urged members of the public to provide useful information to security agencies to help fight crime.
