Obasanjo Meets Kwankwaso in Kano Amid 2027 Political Speculations

Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo has visited the former Defence Minister and Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) Vice-Presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, at his residence in Kano.

The visit, which took place on Thursday, was described as a courtesy call that allowed both leaders to engage in friendly discussions.

Kwankwaso welcomed Obasanjo alongside the NDC governorship candidate in Kano State, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo.

Kwankwaso’s media aide, Saifullahi Hassan, confirmed the meeting, saying it provided an opportunity for “warm exchanges” between the political leaders. However, details of their discussions were not disclosed.

Kwankwaso served as Minister of Defence during Obasanjo’s second term in office from 2003 to 2007, and both leaders have maintained a close relationship since then.

Reports also indicate that Obasanjo supported Peter Obi during the 2023 presidential election and has been linked to efforts toward a possible Obi-Kwankwaso political alliance ahead of the 2027 elections.
