The Niger State Private Health Facilities Agency has shut down 15 private health facilities and arrested a man accused of impersonating a medical doctor during an enforcement operation in Suleja Local Government Area.
The agency said the crackdown was part of efforts to sanitise the healthcare sector, enforce regulations, and protect residents from unsafe medical practices.
According to the agency’s Executive Chairman, Dr Abdullahi Suleiman, the operation was carried out after intelligence reports and routine inspections revealed serious violations in several facilities.
One of the facilities, Ellamara Specialist Hospital, was sealed after inspectors allegedly discovered that an individual had been practising as a doctor without proper qualifications, professional registration, or a valid medical licence. The suspect is also said to have dropped out of medical school but continued treating patients for several years.
Officials further alleged that the man had previously been dismissed by a former employer over credential issues and had also been arrested in Cross River State for a similar offence.
He has since been handed over to security agencies for investigation and possible prosecution.
Dr Suleiman said the 15 closed facilities were found guilty of various violations, including failure to meet operational standards and non-compliance with licensing requirements. He warned private health operators against employing unqualified personnel, stressing that such actions endanger public safety.
The agency also urged residents to report suspicious or unqualified medical practitioners, adding that it will continue monitoring and enforcing standards across healthcare facilities in the state.
