A wave of missile and drone attacks has struck Kuwait International Airport, forcing a partial shutdown and causing significant damage, according to military officials. Several people were reportedly injured after a terminal building was hit during the latest escalation in the Iran–US conflict.
Kuwait’s defence authorities confirmed that incoming drones and missiles targeted civilian infrastructure, while air defence systems intercepted additional projectiles. Flight operations have been suspended, with several aircraft diverted to other regional airports.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said the attacks were part of retaliatory operations against the United States, claiming the strikes were intended as a warning following earlier US military actions in the region. Iranian officials stated that further responses would follow what they described as continued “US aggression.”
In response, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said it carried out “self-defence” strikes targeting Iranian positions on Qeshm Island and claimed it intercepted multiple incoming drones and missiles across the Gulf. US officials said their actions were aimed at protecting regional allies and commercial shipping routes.
Neighbouring Bahrain also reported attempted strikes, activating air defence systems as regional tensions widened. Authorities there confirmed missile interceptions and accused Iran of targeting civilian infrastructure.
The confrontation has intensified diplomatic pressure across the region, with Iran’s officials insisting they remain open to negotiations but rejecting trust in US assurances. Senior Iranian lawmakers warned of stronger military responses if attacks continue.
Analysts say the situation reflects a rapidly escalating cycle of retaliation between Iran and the United States, with spillover effects now affecting multiple Gulf states and raising fears of broader regional instability.
