Magnitude 5.3 Earthquake Strikes China's Sichuan Province

A magnitude 5.3 earthquake struck Sichuan Province in southwestern China, according to the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ).

The earthquake occurred at a depth of about 10 kilometres (6.2 miles), GFZ reported.

Authorities were assessing the situation following the tremor, while further updates on possible damage or casualties were expected.
