At least three Palestinians have been killed and several others injured after an Israeli drone targeted a vehicle near Abu Khadra Mosque in the Rimal area of western Gaza City, according to medical sources.
Al Jazeera’s correspondent in Gaza City reported that the strike on Thursday was the first major explosion in the area after several days of relative calm.
Witnesses said the targeted vehicle was a civilian jeep. One of the victims was identified as Abdul Jawad Abu Lebn, who was reportedly due to get married next week. Wedding invitations were found inside the vehicle.
Earlier on Thursday, Israeli forces reportedly wounded a fisherman off Gaza’s coast and another man near Khan Younis in southern Gaza. A girl was also killed by Israeli gunfire in Beit Lahiya, northern Gaza, according to local reports.
The attacks came despite a US-backed ceasefire announced in October last year. Gaza’s Health Ministry says more than 1,000 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire since the truce began, bringing the total death toll in Gaza since October 2023 to more than 73,000, according to Palestinian health officials.
Meanwhile, the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza said it had completed plans for recovery and reconstruction and was ready to begin work when conditions allow.
The committee said discussions in Cairo focused on rebuilding infrastructure, supporting healthcare services and reviving Gaza’s economy.
However, reconstruction efforts remain uncertain as Israel continues expanding areas under its military control in Gaza, according to reports.
In the occupied West Bank, eight countries including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, the UAE, Indonesia, Pakistan, Egypt and Turkey condemned what they described as increasing settler attacks against Palestinians, including attacks on mosques near Ramallah.
Palestinian officials also reported new demolition orders for homes in the Hebron area, amid rising tensions and settlement expansion.
