The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) says it has launched a missile and drone operation targeting eight US military installations in the region, calling the action a “decisive response” to what it described as renewed attacks against Iranian territory.
According to an IRGC statement, the operation was carried out by its Navy and Aerospace Force during the early hours of Sunday. The group said the targets included the US military’s Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait and the US Fifth Fleet headquarters at Salman Port in Bahrain.
The IRGC claimed ballistic missiles and drones were used in the operation and said the targeted facilities were damaged.
The force said the strikes came after US attacks on five Iranian coastal positions earlier in the day. It warned that any further violations or attacks would face a stronger response.
The IRGC also issued a warning over maritime activity in the Strait of Hormuz, saying vessels that violate Iran’s restrictions would face tougher action.
The latest escalation follows reports from US Central Command that American forces carried out new strikes against targets inside Iran after an incident involving a commercial oil tanker.
Iranian media reported explosions in Hormozgan province and on Qeshm Island, though details about the locations and damage remain unclear.
The United States and Iran have continued exchanging accusations over ceasefire violations, with tensions rising across the region.
