Tehran Announces Funeral Arrangements for Ayatollah Khamenei Amid Mass Mourning

Iran has announced details of the upcoming funeral and farewell ceremonies for Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, as the country prepares for a large public gathering expected to attract millions of mourners.

Brigadier General Hassan Hassanzadeh, commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Tehran Command, said the ceremonies will take place on July 4 and 5 in Tehran.

The events will include a public farewell ceremony, funeral prayers, and a funeral procession. The farewell ceremony will begin on July 4 at the Imam Khomeini Grand Prayer Grounds, while funeral prayers are scheduled for July 5.

Officials said organizers decided to create a wider procession route across the capital instead of using a single street, due to expectations of a very large turnout.

Authorities have prepared transportation, medical services, security arrangements, and public facilities for visitors. Tehran’s metro system and municipal buses will operate at full capacity to help transport mourners.

Organizers said attendance could range from 12 to 15 million people, with some estimates suggesting the number could reach 20 million.

The ceremony will include religious recitations, prayers, and cultural programs as the nation pays tribute to the late leader.
