Iran Says No Need for Foreign Help in Clearing Mines from Strait of Hormuz

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmaeil Baghaei, has said that there is no need for other countries to take part in mine-clearing operations in the Strait of Hormuz.

Speaking during a press briefing, Baghaei said the issue of removing mines from the strategic waterway is a matter for Iran and is covered under an existing memorandum of understanding.

He added that no outside party needs to intervene in the operation, according to reports by Iranian media.

The Strait of Hormuz is a key global energy route through which a significant amount of the world’s oil shipments pass. Tensions surrounding the waterway have increased amid ongoing regional conflicts.
