The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that 1,565,873 Nigerians have completed voter registration during the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.
The commission disclosed that the figure was recorded after seven weeks of Phase III of the registration programme, with 620,933 citizens completing online pre-registration and 944,940 completing the process at physical registration centres.
INEC noted that the figures are still provisional, pending data verification, public claims and objections, and biometric screening through its Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS).
Kano State recorded the highest number of new voters with 118,207 registrations, followed by Lagos with 78,360 and Delta with 76,395.
The commission said registration activities have been temporarily paused in Ekiti and Osun States due to recent and upcoming governorship elections, in line with provisions of the Electoral Act 2022.
Female participation was higher than male participation, with women accounting for 821,276 registrations (52.45 per cent), while men accounted for 744,597 (47.55 per cent).
Young Nigerians dominated the exercise, as those aged between 18 and 34 made up 69.16 per cent of the new registrants.
Students represented the largest occupational group with 384,093 registrations, followed by business owners and farmers/fishermen.
INEC also confirmed that 18,919 persons with disabilities registered during the period.
The electoral body urged eligible Nigerians who have not registered to use its online portal or visit approved CVR centres nationwide to participate in future elections.
